Tools

  • Debian GNU/Linux — Debian GNU/Linux makes a superb hosting environment. It also has a great desktop environment, and is one of the systems we use for development purposes.
  • GIMP — The GIMP is a free software alternative to Adobe Photoshop, and is well suited as a web development tool.
  • Google Chrome — Google’s web browser is very good and a worthy competitor for Mozilla Firefox. It leaves Windows Internet Explorer in the dust.
  • Inkscape — On occasions where true vector art is required for one of our projects, for example in SVG format, the free software program Inkscape is our application of choice.
  • jQuery — JavaScript is cumbersome to write and difficult to implement cross-browser. jQuery solves both problems, enabling great visual and user interface effects that enhance interactivity of websites in any browser worth its salt.
  • MooTools — MooTools is another excellent JavaScript framework with a different approach to jQuery. We are able to work with both.
  • Mozilla Firefox — Firefox is an excellent free web browser that rapidly gained popularity as Microsoft’s Internet Explorer aged.
  • MySQL — MySQL is the open source database system for the web. It’s free, fast, customisable, well-documented, and very powerful in the right hands.
  • OpenOffice.org — Though not the only office suite competing with the industry giant that is Microsoft Office, OpenOffice.org is the most usable and the most complete.
  • PHP: Hypertext PreprocessorPHP is a magnificent open-source web development language, and is ubiquitous on the web. It forms the cornerstore of most of the systems we develop.
